Malphonia is Joe Milan (AKA Ballroom Johnson) on accordion and vocals, Steven Mastroianni on trumpet and euphonium, Milenko Budimir on Micro-Percussion™, and also featuring guest virtuosos Brian McKeon on trombone and tuba, Heidi Hooper on flute, and we also remember the late, great Jonathan Fairman who provided invaluable accompaniment on tuba over the years.
Formed in 2009 for dubious purposes we need not go into, Malphonia is a Cleveland based chamber ensemble specializing in acoustic renderings of popular tunes spanning the centuries in a casual, rock-star neutral environment, and with occasional forays into otherwise odd time signatures. As leading advocates of the “open carry” of musical instruments, we strive to provide an authentic, non-electrified auditory experience.
